Getting the most out of your log home floor plan
Most people begin their research on log homes by looking at floor plans that are specially designed for log homes. Please remember that we, as do most log home companies, use standard floor plans as a means of guiding a customer to the style that suites them best. Once a standard floor plan is picked out, it is almost always modified to fit the homeowner's unique needs and desires. If you cannot settle on a plan to start with we can start from scratch and design a log home that fits your needs perfectly.
Below is a list of tips that can help you get the most out of your log home floor plan:
- No floor plan is ever drawn in stone: they can all be easily modified. It is much easier to add a bedroom, bathroom, deck, etc if it is done on paper first.
- Build up or down not out: if you want to increase the square footage of your living space, it is more economical to add a second floor or add to an existing 2nd floor than it is to increase the footprint of your house.
- Finish a basement: build you log home on a finished basement. The cost per sq ft of a finished, heated basement is less than half that of regular heated living space.
- Think rectangular: if your log home has only four corners to it, the cost will be kept to a minimum. Extra corners will add additional costs.
- Add a shed dormer to the second floor: this is a great way to add to the size of an upstairs bedroom of loft.
- Choose a floor plan that fits your building site: let your Fireside representative visit your land and give you a free site evaluation. Choosing a plan that matches the topography of your land can minimize costs and increase usability.
