One of the many questions facing log home owners is the protection and maintenance of their log homes. We're all aware of the natural beauty of wood, that is part of the appeal of building and owning a log home. Log homes typically are not much different than conventional homes when it comes to routine maintenance. The key word being routine. Log Homes need to be washed and then treated with a superior quality preservative. The goal is to keep the wood dry and free of decay and insects. The cellular structure of wood is akin to that of a sponge, therefore, if left untreated your log home will acquire the same characteristics of an old growth forest with rot and fungus invasion.
There are many quality preservatives on the market today, however we have also found there to be many inferior ones. The investment in a quality product now will provide you with excellent protection and less frequent applications.
